GOAL 1 - Student Learning & Growth

Engage all students in relevant, authentic learning experiences that prepare them to graduate career, college, and life ready. 

OBJECTIVES

1.1 Provide targeted, systematic instruction to better enable students to meet rigorous academic standards. 

  • Strategy 1 - Evaluate and refine curriculum development processes.

  • Strategy 2 - Integrate and reinforce an on-going, systemic focus on measurable results into instructional planning and assessment.

  • Strategy 3 - Develop a professional learning model that ensures and provides research-based, targeted training for all teachers, administrators, and support staff.

  • Strategy 4 - Increase capacity and fidelity of high-yield teaching and learning pedagogy. 

  • Strategy 5 - Expand student participation in rigorous and advanced coursework. 

  • Strategy 6 - Expand student access to instructional technology and integrate digital citizenship into the PK-12 curriculum. 

1.2 All students will demonstrate continuous measurable growth in literacy and numeracy. 

  • Strategy 1 - Evaluate current pre-k-8 literacy curriculum and instruction to ensure focus on best practices aligned with the Virginia Literacy Act.

  • Strategy 2 -Evaluate current and prospective literacy and math intervention programs for effectiveness and fidelity of implementation.

  • Strategy 3 - Develop aligned benchmark and diagnostic literacy and math assessments to inform core instruction and tiered intervention progress monitoring.

  • Strategy 4 - Establish vertically aligned, targeted intervention and remediation for writing skills development.

  • Strategy 5 - Embed opportunities throughout the curriculum for students to enhance their literacy and numeracy skills.  

1.3 Increase and expand career readiness for all students.

  • Strategy 1 - Engage students in developing academic, post-graduate, and career goals.

  • Strategy 2 -Enhance and expand career exploration opportunities to include aligning curriculum with regional and state job trends.

  • Strategy 3 - Provide all students with greater access to engaging and relevant learning experiences and programs such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, ARTS, Math). 

  • Strategy 4 - Maximize the implementation of Bridging Communities and provide Work-Based Learning and CO-OP programs.

  • Strategy 5 - Establish opportunities for all students to complete a high-quality, work-based learning experience.
